The release of iOS 13.4 was big news for Apple users who relied on CarPlay behind the wheel, as the Cupertino-based tech giant unlocked the maps card for third parties.
In other words, the maps card in the dashboard screen that until that point was restricted to Apple Maps can now work with any app that supports it, including here the likes of Google Maps and Waze.

The problem is that Google doesn’t seem too keen on making this happen, so users are now publicly requesting the search giant to update Waze with support for the CarPlay dashboard.

In a post on the Waze suggestion box that’s rapidly gaining traction, users call for Google to take advantage of the change in iOS 13.4 and bring the navigation app to the Multiview screen.

With the iOS 13.4, Apple opened up the CarPlay dashboard to accept 3rd party maps instead of Apple Maps. It would be awesome to have Waze replace Apple Maps on the main dashboard!” the suggestion reads.

Published some ten days ago, the feature suggestion has already received more than 350 votes, most of them in the last 24 hours after the request made it to several social media sites. And of course, there’s a chance that more people would upvote for this request as it gets more exposure.

Google is yet to respond to the suggestion, but there’s a chance the company is already looking into dashboard support not only for Waze but also for Google Maps. Both apps are particularly popular in the CarPlay community, and many stick with Apple Maps just because of the cards apps on the dashboard.

"Would love to use Waze again rather than Apple Maps, but have been using Apple Maps ever since the advent of Dashboard," someone says in the linked feature suggestion.

For the time being, however, Google has remained completely tight-lipped on everything related to this highly-anticipated update. Nevertheless, there’s no doubt the company would make it happen sooner or later, especially because its apps are among the most used behind the wheel when CarPlay is running on the screen.
