The latest news on the matter announces that Apple is now testing its car-related projects behind closed doors. Instead of putting things to the test in the real world, Apple’s engineers are reportedly employing virtual reality simulators, which help the company keep its secrets to itself until they are ready to be revealed.

Another step of Apple’s project involves Augmented Reality, which is supposed to be used for navigation. Other systems of the vehicle that include displays could be linked to Augmented Reality solutions, but Apple is known for its way of keeping a lid on whatever it is preparing.

According to Apple Insider, the current CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, stated that he believes that Augmented Reality is “extremely interesting” and he considers it “sort of a core technology.”

Mr. Cook also added that AR is something that is related to many Apple projects “behind that curtain.” When asked about Virtual Reality, Tim said that it is “cool,” and he also noted that he did not feel that the technology is a niche.

Apple’s car project was previously claimed to be named Project Titan, and some of its employees had left the department after different decisions being made regarding the future of the project.

It was initially believed that Apple was going to build a car, but things did not work out as planned, and a shift was made towards software elements for self-driving vehicles.

The latest hiring spree by Apple involves many hires from the team behind Blackberry’s ONX project, which has formed a group that is based in an Ottawa suburb named Kanata.

With the latest rumors regarding Augmented Reality, Apple might be involved in the development of a solution that will bring AR to the self-driving cars of the future.

It is unclear if one vehicle would need to be fitted with an Apple-designed autonomous driving solution to benefit from Augmented Reality, but this is something that will be decided at a later date.
