The internet is now full of negative reviews on Apple’s Maps service, which is very buggy (as in full of bugs) for pretty much any user outside the US. Now, the app has been deemed as potentially life threatening, by the Australian police, as it has apparently left some motorists stranded for up to 24 hours, without food or water.
The city of Mildura, located in northwestern Victoria and home to some 30,000 people, is shown by Apple Maps as being in the middel of Murray Sunset National Park, when in actual fact, it is located some 70 kilometers away. The national park has no water supply, and temperatures can soar to 46 degrees Celsius, so it’s not the kind of place you’d want to get stranded in.
Apple is currently working on a solution, and they have issued an apology through their CEO, Tim Cook. Also, they also fired the manager who oversaw their Maps project, and are now reportedly hiring ex-Google Maps developers, to try and fix the problem, because it is a very serious one indeed, and it should not be taken lightly.
We say they should have stuck to just using Google’s much better Maps.
