Apple CarPlay Problem in Volkswagen Cars Could Signal a Widespread Issue

Apple CarPlay is generally considered the more reliable alternative to Android Auto, but every once in a while, we hear about issues showing this is no longer the case.

And Volkswagen owners probably know this best these days, as it looks like more and more of them are now struggling with an error breaking down the CarPlay experience in their cars.

More specifically, one of our readers told me running CarPlay in their Volkswagen is no longer possible after installing iOS 14.2. After doing a little research, it turns out this is actually an older problem that many other people have been struggling with.

A reddit thread posted not a long time ago includes additional information, with a 2019 Alltrack owner explaining the whole thing happens occasionally and randomly.

For some reason, the only way to bring CarPlay back to fully working condition is to disconnect the iPhone and reconnect it after some 30 minutes. Others have confirmed the whole thing happens in their cars too, and the only error they’re getting is “Apple iPhone connection was canceled.

No other specifics are provided, and right now, nobody knows for sure how they can deal with the whole thing. Because at this point, none of the generic workarounds people have tried seem to have any result, as trying different Lightning cables (including original ones), resetting the iPhone and the head unit, deleting the paired Bluetooth devices, and others make absolutely no difference.

For now, it’s not even known who to blame for the whole thing, as it’s not yet clear if the problem happens on Volkswagen’s side or it’s all caused by a bad iPhone update. As said, some are seeing this weird CarPlay behavior after installing iOS 14.2, but judging from the posts found online, this isn’t new, and the same problems have been experienced starting with at least iOS 13.

If this is something you’re seeing in your Volkswagen, make sure you drop us a line in the comment box below to help figure out if it’s a widespread issue or not.
