Apple CarPlay Eyes Dashboard Domination For 40 New Cars in 2015

Here comes Apple, promising big stuff and all that. After ambitiously bragging about the intentions of building the iCar, the company still won’t leave the automotive industry alone. Now, they want CarPlay to be fitted in every car possible.

The battle between CarPlay and Android Auto was escalated to new heights and extended its mind-games into the automotive area as well, as the fight for car dashboards is about to get intense. Nevermind the Apple iCar and all that sweet but cheap talk associated to it. Now, Apple wants to rule the car world with CarPlay.

At least that’s what Apple boss Tim Cook suggested during the company’s media event on Monday. Mr. Cook announced the audience that the Apple CarPlay infotainment system will become available on 40 new models until this year will draw to a close.

Of course, Apple is aiming for the jackpot here. This is the main reason why among the list of carmakers that will switch to the Apple CarPlay interface we can find names like Ferrari, Audi, Hyundai, Volvo and Honda.

However, one big-name manufacturer won’t receive the bubbly icons that allow users to make phone calls, listen to music, access maps and whatnot. Can you guess it? Well, we’re taking about Toyota.

For some reasons, Toyota is not interested in using either Apple’s CarPlay or Google’s Android Auto for its cars, despite the fact that one year ago, the Japanese giant said it would embrace the CarPlay but not sooner than 2015.

For now, we’ll just have to let this obsession for cars develop in Silicon Valley. However, we fervently hope that Apple and Google don’t go into the car manufacturing game, but simply stick to making infotainment systems for cars built by proper automakers.
