Bob Mansfield has a long history with Apple, as he joined the company in 1999. While he did retire in June 2012, he was a frequent sight on the Apple campus, and reports now claim that all of the executives involved in Project Titan report to him. Mr. Mansfield then reports directly to Tim Cook.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Bob Mansfield has been appointed to oversee Project Titan, ensuring that Apple will make a car. The vehicle is expected to come to market by 2021, but some reports claim it could be ready sooner, and be launched as early as 2019.
Mr. Mansfield is one of the few Apple executives selected to appear in the company’s famous product announcement videos. Just being in one of those videos is a significant achievement for any Apple employee, as only a select few get to appear in them.
The other figures regularly seen in product announcement videos from Apple are Tim Cook, the CEO of the corporation, and Jony Ive, design chief. The late Steve Jobs was in every product announcement video made while he was at the helm of the Cupertino giant.
According to reports, he returned to work for Apple after receiving a “generous compensation package,” and had to step in after Scott Forstall, former iOS chief, departed the company back in 2012.
Before this rumor regarding Mansfield coming back to Apple, he was a senior consultant with the business. His previous departure is probably linked to a tiresome work-life balance, which takes a toll on any employee of a company involved in the tech industry.
