Apollo Arrow Looks Out of This World During Monaco Offloading

They say "third time's a charm," but here's to hoping the second attempt will prove successful for Roland Gumpert, the man behind the fabulous (and also hideous) Gumpert Apollo, who is now giving it another go with help from a Hong Kong investor.
This time, the previous model name has turned into the main brand and so the new hypercar is called Apollo Arrow. It was presented at the Geneva Motor Show, but it failed to make a strong impression there - probably because it blended in very well with the rest of the concepts.

But the Apollo Arrow isn't a concept, even though its looks might fool you into believing that. To my eye, it has just the right amount of craziness, with those open front wheel arches and the multitude of creases and winglets. Just by looking at it, you can imagine how the air is going to flow on its body - it almost feels like an open section into something that was supposed to be closed.

Maybe it's also the orange paint job at work here, but when I look at it, I see a bigger, more bashful KTM X-Bow - it's got the same attitude, and yet it's clear from the get-go that it plays in a completely different league. And so it does, with its beautifully balanced horsepower and torque figures - both sitting at 1,000 in the metric system, the equivalent of 738 lb-ft - coming from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter central mounted V8 engine.

On the road, these numbers translate into even more petrifying ones: 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) comes after just 2.9 seconds, and it needs 5.9 more to get to 124 mph (200 km/h). Once there, it's got 99 mph (160 km/h) more to go until it hits its top speed, which makes it as fast as you'd expect from something that's the spiritual successor of the Gumpert Apollo, the car that held the record on the 'Ring for plenty of years.

The video shows the Arrow as it's being offloaded from a truck, slowly and carefully, with the kind of attention this type of cars demand. Attention is also what it got from the crowds gathered around, even though since it wasn't the only exotic set of wheels present on the spot, it's hard to tell which was the pivotal looks magnet.

The interior seems to be the weakest point of the Arrow, sporting the kind of generic super sports car features you'd expect: black everything, Alcantara everything. There's even a funny moment when the door is opened and the girl sitting at the wheel seems surprised, but also bothered by the sudden rays of sunlight making it into the cramped cockpit. It almost felt like they were waking up a vampire in the middle of the day.

Unfortunately, we don't get to hear the Arrow roar its engine to life, but we get the feeling that video is brewing as well. Anyway, we're not bored with just looking at the car yet, so there's still plenty to keep us occupied until then. Have a look for yourself:
