As a Christmas gift for Segway fans, the American-Chinese manufacturer of crazy mobility solutions presented this week in China four of its latest projects, including a brand new motorcycle concept hailed as “the fastest product developed by Segway-Ninebot ever.”
The motorcycle-like machine is called Apex, and the full details on it are still scarce. We don’t know what makes it tick, but we do know it is a concept meant to demonstrate the company’s “vision for futuristic smart city transportations.”
Segway says Apex comes powered by an electric powertrain that accelerates it from 0 to 60 in just 2.9 seconds, hence the “fastest Segway ever” designation used to describe it.
With the Apex, Segway also showed another concept in China, the eScooter T, and two production machines, the eMoped and eScooter. All are extremely advanced and connected, which makes us believe the Apex, if it ever is cleared for production, will be the same.
The production two-wheelers, for instance, come with a keyless system and automatic lock/unlock, fast charging, GPS, and even over the air updates.
Another aspect the Apex could use, one that is already deployed on the existing range, is the highly-customizable appearance. The eMoped and eScooter, for instance, each have according to Segway 100,000 body panel color and seat cushion combinations, a complete nightmare for the people who are undecided.
As for what powers the Apex, that’s still unknown, but the systems fitted on the other models shown have ranges between 22 miles for the eMoped and 125 miles for the eScooter.
That being said, we’ll probably learn more about the Apex in the early days of January 2020. Word is Segway will be bringing its new lineup of products to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
