Anthony West Leaves MotoGP, Joins Supersports

MotoGP Kawasaki rider Anthony West officially confirmed recent rumors indicating a possible move to Supersports, admitting that the year and a half period spent in MotoGP was quite difficult for him because he always wanted a competitive bike to challenge the title. The 27-year-old rider will compete for Team Stiggy Motorsport Honda and will be replaced in the MotoGP Kawasaki line-up by Italian Marco Melandri.

In an interview for autosport.com, the Australian admitted that one of the things that attracted him to Supersports is the Stiggy team founded by one of his previous teammates, Johan Stigeleft.

"I'm very happy to be joining the Stiggy team. Stiggy is a friend and an old teammate from 200e3 in 250ccs. I remember saying to him one day that he should start his own team because none of the other teams knew how to do it right, and to my surprise he did! Over the last couple of years I heard from everybody in the industry that the Stiggy team is one of the better ones in the championship,” West told the aforementioned source.

Moreover, Anthony West also revealed some of his plans with the new Supersports team, admitting that he always dreamed to fight for the title, a plan which was not possible in MotoGP due to the Kawasaki motorcycle he got.

“To have a team boss who knows what it's like to race and knows what racing is all about is just great! After a difficult year in MotoGP I need to race on a bike that can win, and in Supersport together with team Stiggy, I can,” West explained.

Anthony West is 18th in the overall world championship table with a total of 46 points, 4 points behind his teammate John Hopkins.
