While experts across the world tell us to stay home this Christmas for obvious reasons, millions of Americans are still expected to travel between December 23 and January 3. Many of them will obviously rely on their phones for navigation, music playing, and things like that.
Those who use Android Auto behind the wheel, however, might have to deal with an old Google Assistant bug that, for some reason, came back in the latest app update.
More specifically, it’s the glitch that caused contacts to go missing all of a sudden when voice commands are being used to make a phone call, something that Google itself had already fixed back in late September.
“The Assistant team prepared a fix which will start rolling out this week. Please make sure your Google app is updated to version 11.24 and restart your phone,” a member of the Android Auto announced on September 30.
And yet, the issue is back, though, for the time being, it’s still not known if it’s widespread or not. I came across the same problem only a few hours ago, and after a quick search online, I realized more people are struggling with this glitch on Android Auto too.
In my case, everything is fully up to date, so I’m running Android Auto 5.9 with Google app 11.41.10. I’m not sure when the whole thing started, but people in this thread claim they noticed similar problems in early December.
“Everything was fine, however recently after update the same situation began on my Toyota Highlander 2020, I say ‘call to’ and then the assistant just without telling anything disappears. Nothing helps. Tried to uninstall the previous version, however after I connect to my car it makes me update to the newest version,” someone said this week.
At this point, the only workaround seems to be going back to an older version of the Google app and then preventing the update to the latest build.
