Established back in 1967 as an independent racing shop and then as a tuner specialized in Mercedes-Benz, AMG will turn 50 next year.
A lot of things will happen in Affalterbach in 2017, and to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary, Mercedes-Benz will unveil a host of limited edition models, including one for the not-yet-unveiled Mercedes-AMG GT C Coupe.

Named simply GT C Edition 50, the evil-looking sports car will be technically a mix between the Nurburgring-killing GT R and the GT S, which used to be the top GT model until this year.

It is expected that the special edition model will have a limited run, so considering this detail it may also be safe to assume that most of them are probably sold out.

Specs wise, the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 should offer the same output as the mill in the regular, not yet launched GT C Coupe and the recently unveiled GT C Roadster. That means that no less than 557 PS and 680 Nm (501.2 lb-ft) of torque are sent through the transaxle gearbox to the rear wheels.

Speaking of which, the GT C in both standard and “Edition 50” guises will come with the same rear-wheel steering system as the GT R, along with wider front and rear tracks. With magnesium used in the front and even more aluminum parts in various areas around the model, a slight drop in weight and center of gravity compared to the GT and GT S should be felt as well.

In other words, for those that aren't ready for the savageness of the GT R, the GT C Coupe should be the next best thing, particularly as it offers a very similar look.

It's not yet clear if the Edition 50 will only come exclusively in the color that adorns the car which our spy photographers caught completely undisguised, during an official photo shoot. From some angles, it looks like a much darker version of the Selenite Magno Grey, which is not exactly the cheapest color option in Stuttgart.

Either way, expect the GT C coupe in Edition 50 attire to cost somewhere between the standard GT C and the hardcore GT R, although a bit closer to the not-horribly-expensive R-spec model. Taking into account that it was spotted during its official photo shoot, a January 2017 official unveil date shouldn't be out of the question.
