Android Auto Voice Assistant Issue Finally Under Investigation

The bug causes the assistant to fail to understand commands 1 photo

As many of us learned the hard way, the experience with Android Auto depends on a lot of things. A feature that often breaks down all of a sudden is support for voice commands.
Most recently, the voice assistant fails to recognize the commands, returning a simple “Sorry, I don’t understand you” error whenever drivers try to perform an action hands-free.

While the issue has been around for a while, it was reported once again on Google’s forums earlier this week, and several other Android Auto users confirmed the whole thing is happening in their cars too.

I've tried everything and it doesn't work for me. I activate the voice assistant and when I ask him to play music for me, from any platform, he tells me ‘I'm sorry, I didn't understand you.’ I have tried it with my two mobiles and it does not work for me. I have changed players. I have deleted and reinstalled the application I have tried with other cables I have cleared the cache data and still it doesn't work,” one user explains on the forums.

Long-time Android Auto users certainly know issues with Google Assistant are nothing new, but this time, the Mountain View-based search giant responded quite quickly, confirming the reports have been forwarded to the rest of the team for a thorough investigation.

Thanks for reporting this issue. We've forwarded your issue to the rest of the team. We'll reach out to you if we need more information. Thanks!” a member of the Android Auto team says.

What this means is you shouldn’t hold your breath for a fix, as the Android Auto unit is just looking into reports, so there’s no guarantee a workaround would be provided too soon. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do in the meantime to bring Android Auto back to normal, as the generic workarounds don’t seem to make any difference for the time being.
