Parking has become quite a nightmare in crowded cities, so cars left in front of a garage or blocking an entrance are ubiquitous these days.
In theory, simply writing your phone number on a piece of paper and then putting that piece of paper in a place where everybody can see it, such as behind the windshield, should be enough for most people to be able to contact you if the car needs to be moved urgently. But someone from Hemel Hempstead has come up with an idea they claim is even more convenient.

What if we just use a smartphone app for the whole thing? And this is how Adeyfield-based Zwelitsha Mushambadope has created Linko, an application whose purpose is to scan your registration plate and then provide someone with your contact information whenever you’re blocking them in.

Available on Android and iPhone, the app comes with built-in call and messaging support, so theoretically, it should be quite easy to find the owner of a car blocking your entrance.

According to the official description of the app, it integrates a large database of vehicle registration plates in the United Kingdom while also offering a series of extras like remembering where you parked the car. You can also store vehicle information and set reminders, such as when servicing is required.

In theory, this application could come in quite handy, but on the other hand, it obviously needs a large number of people to be using it in order to make it effective. And of course, many drivers out there would still find it more convenient to just write their phone number on a piece of paper rather than install a dedicated application for the whole thing, so it’ll be interesting to see if the adoption of Linko takes off or not.

You can give the app a try by downloading it for free from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store using these links.
