Ana Beatriz to Make IndyCar Debut in Sao Paolo

With Danica Patrick likely to switch to NASCAR in the near future – although she committed to another IRL campaign with Andretti Autosport this season – and Milka Duno also flirting with stock car racing, the North American Series was in danger of losing its female racers for the upcoming seasons.

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing took care of that, as they will field 24-year old Brazilian racer Ana Beatriz for the season opening round in Sao Paolo. The former Indy Lights driver secured the funding for a 3rd car for the aforementioned team – therefore joining regular racers Justin Wilson and Mike Conway – but is confident that the deal could be extended for more races in 2010.

I'm really, really excited and happy to be here. I think the team is very professional and I have great team-mates with Mike Conway and Justin Wilson. I hope that I can learn a lot from these British drivers,” said Beatriz.

This is very special for me doing my debut in the IZOD IndyCar race at my home event. It's also very special to be the first female Brazilian race car driver to race there and it will be a great experience. Hopefully we can get the rest together (with manager Andre Ribeiro) for the whole season,” added the 24-year old racer.

Beatriz will not come to the Indy Car Series without some strong results backing Dreyer & Reinbold Racing's choice, as she became the first women driver in the history of the Indy Lights championship (feeder series for the IRL) to win a race, back in 2008. It was during the course of the same season that she ranked 3rd overall in the drivers' classification, before she was sidelined from the series due to lack of sponsors.

The race on the streets of Sao Paolo will mark the season opening round of the 2010 IndyCar Series and is scheduled to take place on March 14.
