An Early Christmas Present With the Early Release of The Grand Tour Special

Getting into the Christmas mood is a matter of Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond suddenly deciding they’re “bored” with the people that keep asking them when the new Grand Tour special is out.

"The Grand Tour Presents: A Massive Hunt" should have premiered on Amazon Prime today, December 18, but it’s been released one day early as a surprise to fans. The announcement was made by the trio of hosts, Clarkson, May and Hammond themselves, in a video you can also find at the bottom of the page. It is the most Clarkson-May-Hammond video you could possibly expect, including puns, explicit jokes, and fake-complaining about how difficult the fans can be.

As Clarkson himself puts it in the video, he’s “asked every 25 seconds when is the new special out.” “The point is we've had this constantly for a year, we're bored with it, so we decided that it can go out early,” he says by way of explaining the early release.

He makes it sound as if they’re releasing the special by at least one month in advance, a joke producers are in on right along, writing in the official caption to the video, “all those marketing plans… wasted.” A one-day early release is really no big deal, but that’s not the gist of the story. That would be that these three guys can make even the lamest, most mundane thing sound hilarious and watchable.

"The Grand Tour Presents: A Massive Hunt" takes the trio to Madagascar and Réunion in their specially modified cars (an old Bentley Continental GT, a Ford Focus RS, and a Caterham Seven), where they engage in the usual challenges as they search for a hidden treasure.

Apparently, the next special will take the trio to Russia, but considering the way things stand right now in the world and the travel restrictions that may still apply for months to come, it’s perhaps best to enjoy this one for as long as you can.
