Founded in 2007, AMP Electric Vehicles modifies the Mercedes-Benz ML and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, by replacing their standard engine and drivetrain with an all-electric variant. They claim they are making the world’s only all-wheel drive all-electric SUVs - and they are.
Underneath the body of either of the SUVs, the new drivetrain gives them an all-electric range of 200km (125 miles), a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) of under 10 seconds and a top speed limited to 144km/h (90mph).

Pricing for the Jeep model starts around €45,000 ($57,500) and the ML model will cost considerably more. Thankfully, both versions are eligible for the €5,869 ($7,500) Federal Tax Credit, with the sum being deducted from the purchase price of the vehicle.

If you are interested in buying one of these unique SUV-EVs, you can’t yet, however, you can make a deposit of €3,900 ($5000) and you will be ‘on the list’. First cars are expected to be delivered to customers towards the end of 2012.
