Driving a performance car without actually knowing how well you’re doing makes you feel incomplete. Sure, there’s always the speedometer, but only relying on it is like using a ruler to measure cosmic space. Mercedes-Benz’s AMG doesn’t want its customers to feel this way, so the company has recently introduced a complex performance measuring application that monitors much more parameters.
Dubbed AMG Performance Media (APM), the application uses the Command display to give you real time data, measuring things like lateral G-forces, brake pressure, instant hp and torque, throttle position and others.
In a modern car, most of these parameters are already used by the vehicle’s systems, so it’s such a shame that more carmakers don’t choose to give us such an application that just shares the information with the driver.
You can see the APM at work on the Hockenheimring in Germany (in the SLS AMG) in the adjacent video.
