AMG Not Planing any Hybrids in Near Future

After companies like Ferrari and McLaren unveiled their latest high-tech hypercars, Mercedes-Benz AMG is not joining the hybrid saga too soon.

“No hyper car from AMG,” director of AMG vehicle development, Tobias Moers said when asked about making a possible rival car for the LaFerrari and co. “Not at all,” he enforced. He explained that the hypercar business is fragile, and the AMG brand is not resonating well with hypercars buyers for now.

Anyway, rumours hint that AMG has plans for replacing the three-year-old SLS in 2015. “There are a lot of rumours,” admitted Moers. “What I can confirm today is that the SLS is not a single-shoot story.”

For now, the SLS AMG Black Series is sufficient in offering their performance segment version for the buyers. All their effort was concentrated on producing the first four-cylinder AMG models, the A45 and the upcoming CLA45 AMG, maybe even a small sport SUV called the GLA45 AMG.

The company also excludes hybrid technology, as they will rely on improving internal combustion engines and lightweight materials in order to reduce fuel consumption.
