Despite not that many people being interested in our Mercedes-Benz AMG GT April Fools joke, we bet that these photos will fascinate a lot of people. They managed to get us glued to the screens, anyway.
As you can see in the images shot by AutoGespot member Jeancala somewhere in Barcelona, Spain, this AMG GT (C190) pre-production prototype isn't featuring the usual black and white camouflage of all the other prototypes of the model spied until now.
Instead, a wrap that looks to symbolize green flames has been adorned all over the car, making it look like something that is run in the Gumball Rally or something similar.
We have no idea why the Mercedes-Benz testing engineers decided to go for this type of deceiving camouflage instead of opting for the types of camo usually employed by all the other three-pointed star pre-production prototypes in recent years. On the other hand, we aren't actually complaining about it.
As some of you already know, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG GT (C190) will be powered by an all-new twin-turbocharged V8 with a total displacement of just four liters, which in the mellowest spec will develop around 500 hp and 700+ Nm (516+ lb ft) of torque.
Internally codenamed M178, the new powerplant will be closely related with that from the upcoming C 63 AMG W205 – where it will sport the M177 moniker – and will be actually based on two M133 engines from the A 45, CLA 45 and GLA 45 AMG bonded together to form a V8.
Currently, there are three different date options for the AMG GT's official unveil, with the closest one being at this month's 2014 New York Auto Show – which would make sense from a marketing perspective - while the farthest one is in the Fall, at the Paris Motor Show 2014.
