Nothing is confirmed as of yet, so keep your salt-cellar nearby before reading the following, but the highly-expected Mercedes-Benz AMG GT (C190) might be revealed as early as next moth, in New York - of all places.
If this proves to be correct, it would be the second time in exactly sixty years when Mercedes-Benz is launching a super sports car at the New York Auto Show.

In case it isn't already obvious for the three-pointed star aficionados out there, the 2014 New York Auto Show marks the 60th anniversary from when the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing was unveiled on US soil, at the suggestion of Max Hoffman back in 1954.

Recent reports - including from us - have continuously said that the AMG GT will make its public debut on July 20, at Mercedes's home Formula 1 race at Hockenheim, also implying that the new model will replace the SLS AMG as the official F1 safety car (which it probably will, eventually, ed).

The NY Auto Show launch speculation is coming from an interview that MotorTrend writer Jonny Lieberman conducted with Tobias Moers, the head honcho at Mercedes-AMG.

When asked about the new M177/M178 family of AMG engines, Moers simply answered “Wait for New York.” Corroborating with the earlier confirmation that the C 63 AMG W205 is definitely arriving at the end of 2014, we concluded that the only other AMG product to come with the fabulous M156 engine replacement would be the AMG GT (C190).

As some of you already know, the new M177 will be used by the future C 63 AMG W205, while its M178 version will power the new AMG GT. Sporting a displacement of four liters, a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers and direct injection, it is based on two M133 four-cylinders bonded together to form a V8.

We will keep you posted if anything else related to this subject pops up, which should be soon as the New York Auto Show 2014 starts on April 18.
