After multiple collaborations in the last three years, Mercedes Benz’s performance arm AMG joined forces with the Cigarette Racing team to introduce the racing boat. It was developed over a 24-month period and it has plenty to offer: two Mercury Racing twin-turbocharged 552 cubic-inch engines give the boat an impressive 2,700 HP.
According to a Cigarette company official, the boat features over 100 technical innovations, such as an enhanced shape and extreme weight-reducing. "Horsepower is the driving force, it's really about the complete package," the executive said. Simulations have shown that the AMG Cigarette boat can reach a top speed of over 130 mph (208 km/h).
The 46 foot racing boat comes dressed in hand-applied AMG Alubem silver paint, borrowed from the Mercedes SLS AMG. This is completed by Designo Mystic Whyte metallic paint stripes. The boat’s passengers are treated with marine-grade upholstery, inspired from the SLS AMG’s white napa leather and AMG Design porcelain.
The event also marked a premiere: it was the first time when a car was allowed to take part in the boat show, as the Mercedes SLS AMG stood next to the AMG Cigarette racer.
Cigarette said that the racing boat is only a display item, not available for sale until its worldwide tour ends - the boat will also be present at an exhibition held in Palm Beach, Florida, subsequently traveling to Genoa, Italy. 2011 will see the boat being showcased in Asia and the Middle East. The company added that the Rider which served as a base for the AMG boat has a starting price of $900,000.
