Last year, automakers were struck not only by the ’19 thing’, but also by the chip shortage. However, that did not stop Lamborghini from achieving an all-time sales record, with more vehicles delivered worldwide than ever.
No less than 8,405 vehicles were shipped to their owners, up 13% over 2020. As you can expect, the best-seller by far was the Urus super SUV, accounting for 5,021 units. The exotic high-rider was followed by the Huracan V10-powered supercar, with 2,586 copies, and the V12 Aventador, with 798 of them shipped globally.
“This record has provided confirmation of four factors for us: the solidity of our strategic plan, our brand’s outstanding international reputation, the competence and passion of our people, and the exceptional professionalism and dynamism shown by our 173 dealers in 52 markets, who have continued to invest alongside us at a challenging, uncertain time,” said CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
Lamborghini’s biggest market in 2021 was the United States, which held on to the top position with 2,472 vehicles, an 11% increase over 2020. China accounted for 935 cars, up 55%, followed by Germany and the United Kingdom, in this order, with 706 (+16%) and 564 (+9%) units respectively. In its home market of Italy, the Sant’Agata Bolognese marque delivered 359 cars, a 3% increase over the previous year.
It wasn’t a fruitful year for the Raging Bull in terms of sales only, as they also launched three new models in 2021, including the Huracan STO, Aventador Ultimae, and Countach LPI 800-4. In 2022, they will introduce four new products, Lamborghini says, without going into details just yet.
Nonetheless, one of them will be the updated Urus, which is about to receive its mid-cycle refresh. The Aventador replacement could be another upcoming model, and it might be joined by a different edition of the Huracan. As for the fourth one, your guess is as good as ours as to what it could be.
