Well, this part of the dream is now over: the former American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) is dead and buried. In its stead we now have Suzuki Motor of America Incorporated (SMAI), the new company which will take care of the continental US business (including Alaska).
ASMC is finished as of March 31st, after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and thus ending the toils of a car selling business which did not sell well at all during the last years.
The new company, Suzuki Motor of America is going to be the sole distributor of Suzuki bikes, ATVs and UTVs, marine engines and automotive parts in the the ConUS.
SMAI has also dropped contracts with no less than 98 US dealers with remarkably poor sale figures in the past 4 years and now operating with 832 dealerships. We remind you that Suzuki has also shut down the plant in Gijon, Spain, the home of the the GZ 125, Maurader 250, Burgman 125, Burgman 200, UX 125, 150 Sixteen, DR 125 SM, GS500 and GS500F. These models are to be produced in other plants.
