American Police Motorcycle Museum Closing Due to Bad Smell and Human Ashes

There’s quite a small number of factors that can close down a motoring museum, and apparently, the bad smell and human ashes from a crematory nearby can be considered one of them.

Douglas Frederick, the owner of the American Police Motorcycle Museum in Meredith, New Hampshire, is forced to close down his pride and joy after a dispute started in May with both the local and state officials that ash and bad smell are spewing out the crematorium nearby, and his business is affected.

“We would see explosions of ash coming out of the chimney, sometimes 50 feet into the air, and then it would cover our motorcycles and our cars,” Frederick said during an interview for WMUR9.

He also said the issue with bad smell and falling debris is happening since 2013, but only recent started to complain to the local authorities. In return, they told him the funeral home is doing nothing wrong. Moreover, the Mayhew Funeral Home filed suit against Frederick over false claims.

No other information about the case is available at the moment, but the museum’s official web page informs that the location will be closed starting July 18th. The owner hopes to find a new location and open again as soon as the beginning of next year by the start of the 2017 New England motorcycle season.

The current museum was opened six years ago and holds over one hundred motorcycles on three floors. Apart from old-school police bikes, the collection now includes hill climbers, choppers, old racing bikes and other original-paint models from past decades.

The location also hosted multiple retro motoring events in the past as well as tribute events towards veterans. Another thing the museum condones is the Junior Motor Officer program, where kids take the pledge to read every night, obey their parents and promise not to bully others.

We can only hope the owner finds a great new spot and the museum will continue to be the as great as it was until now.
