Set to arrive in 2016, the Alpine 110’s successor is going to be developed as the French Porsche 911. At least that’s what Renault’s head designer claims, who also says that Alpine needs to follow the Porsche recipe in order to become successful.
"We need to create the 911 of Alpine. Then we can do the Panamera and Cayman. It needs to have all the roots of the brand on which we can build,” Laurens van den Acker told Piston Heads.
Very few details are known about the new Alpine, which, according to Renault COO Carlos Tavares, will appeal to “well heeled traditionalists and younger driving enthusiasts”. According to recent reports, the Renault-Caterham-developed vehicle will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an output of 280 bhp. The sportscar will be available for about £50,000 (€58,500, $76,300).
The original Alpine A110, one of the most famous French sportscar, was built from 1961 through 1977 in a two-door coupe body style.
