Created with the racing enthusiast in mind, this single-seater race car turns design convention on its head. Instead of focusing more on the front, the French team turned their attention to the back, which is the most distinctive part of the concept. Not only does this feature gigantic scoops to channel air, but also air flaps that were added to the side.

Polyphony Digital, the makers of the Gran Turismo 6 video game, asked the world's most famous car brands if they wanted to create cool concepts that could be driven in the game. Renault took a chance and decided its model would preview the new sportscar they will introduce in 2016.

Bernard Ollivier, CEO, Société des Automobiles Alpine, explains, the car will not just be featured in the virtual world: “The end result is so stunning that we couldn’t resist producing an actual full-scale model of it!”

The actual production Alpine will most likely keep the distinctive headlight design and muscular shoulders over the wheel arches.

The President of Polyphony Digital loves It

What's really surprising is how involved mister Yamauchi-san was with this project, even though it's the 12 Vision GT concept. The GT mogul said  the "Alpine A110 was the first good looking car" he ever saw, which is high praise.

“As a child, I used to admire concept cars,”
the president of the company said. "They were like gifts that pointed to a bright future. That’s still how I see them. The technology used by car manufacturers today allows them to surpass my imagination. I hope that this research will contribute to changing our lives."

"I am very proud to have Alpine on board with us for the Vision Gran Turismo project. It’s a brand for which I have always had a great deal of affection and I have much appreciated the quality of the contact between our respective teams. This close tie was facilitated by the passion we all share. The Alpine that is now available for Gran Turismo players is the fruit of a formidable shared enthusiasm."

You want tech facts with that?

Beside being drop-dead gorgeous, the Alpine Vision Gran Turismo is also technologically advanced. Built around a carbon fiber monocoque, it features double wishbone suspension with adjustable springs and dampers.

Power comes from a 4.5-liter V8 engine producing around 450 hp and 580 Nm (428lb-ft) of torque, channeled to the rear wheels via a 7-speed sequential gearbox. Supposedly weighing only 900 kilograms, this impressive machine is capable of setting your controllers on fire at 320 km/h (199 mph).

The Alpine Vision Gran Turismo will be available to download free of charge in Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation3 from March 2015. A full scale mockup has been constructed and will be on display in the French capital’s Hôtel des Invalides until the end of January.
