The XD3 is based on the xDrive35d version of the X3 and is above it in every way. The 3-liter 6-cylinder engine now has 350 HP and 700 Nm of torque, being the most powerful diesel fitted on a BMW today. However, being developed by Alpina (even though it is based on the tri-turbo 3-liter BMW diesel) it doesn't count as a BMW engine.

The car is now extremely fast for an SUV. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds (that's extremely close to the X5M's 4.7 seconds, and that car has 555 HP) and the top speed in 253 km/h.

The fuel consumption figures are not sky-high and stand at a combined level of 6.8l/100 km, which is very good for a 3-liter 350 HP diesel. The 180 g/km CO2 emission levels have been slightly increased but that's no surprise.

The exterior and interior designs have also been changed being integrated in the classic Alpina look that made the German tuner world-renowned. The front spoiler has been changed to a more Dynamic version whilst also integrating new functional air intakes for an optimum air flow for the intercoolers.

The rear has the Alpina trademark touch with slight elliptical double-ended tailpipes integrated into the rear valance. Also, the wheels are now 21" Alpina Classics.

The interior has Alcantara leather upholstery with white stitching all around. The steering wheel is hand-finished in Alpina Lavalina with Blue/Green stitching to go with the Alpina instrument back panel which is now actually an LCD display.

The car will be displayed at Alpina's stand in Geneva starting with March 7.
