Alpina D3 Biturbo Review by Evo

It was nearly 50 years ago when Alpina started working with BMW on creating even better Bavarian machines. However just a few years back they were recognized as standalone manufacturers, receiving the right to stamp out their own VIN numbers.

Since then, they created some really interesting machines. One of the latest is the reinterpretation of the F30 335d model, known as the Alpina D3 Biturbo, a car that was taken for a ride by the guys from Evo.

To start off, we should tell you that the enhanced diesel burner makes 350 HP and 700 Nm of torque (516 lb-ft), all of them sent to the rear wheels in case of the Sedan. If you’d like AWD, you’ll have to purchase a Touring D3.

On the road, the Alpina is quiet brilliant, even on 20 inch wheels. It’s as comfortable as a car running on such slick tires could be when it has to but it’s also super hard when you push it to the limit, going into sport mode.

The steering also seems improved over the standard 3er, offering a bit more feedback whilst the engine has so much torque, you’ll feel the rear end twitching even when the traction control is enabled.

Compared to the BMW 335d M Sport model, the Alpina is GBP5,400 more expensive in Great Britain (where Evo tested it) but it’s very well worth the extra money.
