Speaking of history, BMW tuner and standalone manufacturer, Alpina, wrote a couple of new pages last year, revealing new, record-breaking models that soon became extremely popular.
Starting last spring, at the Geneva Motor Show with the first ever SUV in the brand’s history, the XD3 Biturbo, Alpina proved a point: keep up with the times or get left behind. While some never thought the Buchloe-based manufacturer would never go this way, others prayed in silence for such a beast.

It’s not just extremely powerful, it’s also extremely capable, taking the BMW X3 to a new level. With 350 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque coming out of that biturbo 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine under the bonnet, the SUV is deadly quick and precise, doing 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds going up to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). In the meantime, it’s only sipping 6.6 liters of fuel for each 100 km it covers (35.6 mpg).

However, that wasn’t the most impressive model they revealed. In the wake of BMW launching the new M3 and M4, Alpina came up with the brand new B3 and B4 Biturbo models, based on BMW’s 335i and 435i models. These beauties are even crazier.

Their inline 6-cylinder 3-liter turbocharged engines received an extra turbo and got their power levels raised to 410 HP and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque, almost as much as a proper M car. Furthermore, unlike the M3 and M4 they are available with all-wheel-drive and that translates into mind-blowing acceleration.

The two will do 100 km/h (62 mph) faster than their correspondent M brothers, in just 4 seconds flat, going up to a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). The audience was more than pleased with the numbers they are posting and over 520 units were already ordered in 2013.

Last, but not least, the Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo showed up at Frankfurt, becoming the world’s fastest production diesel in the world. With a similar engine as on the XD3 SUV, the D3 model has 350 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds and then proceed up to 278 km/h (172 mph).

Overall, Alpina broke its own records in 2013, registering over 1,700 orders from interested customers. 2014 will also be a very interesting year that started with the world debut of the B4 Convertible and B6 xDrive Gran Coupe models at Geneva.
