Alpina Brought a €92,000 D3 Biturbo Convertible to Frankfurt. Is it Worth it? – Live Photos

Alpina’s stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015 was decorated with expensive models but when you think about it, that’s just how the Buchloe-based manufacturer rolls, most of its creations being reserved for the rich one percenters out there.

However, one little detail caught our eye over there and that was the price tag of a D4 Biturbo Convertible model that was no less than €92,810. That simply left us bewildered, not necessary due to the price alone but even more so because of how much over the starting price it was.

The Alpina D4 Biturbo Convertible has a starting price of €65,700 and already comes with an impressive array of standard features but if you want the best of the best in terms of fit and finish as well as luxury, you’ll have to dip into the list of options.

Therefore, we’re dealing with a car here that has add-ons on it worth nearly half the starting price. We don’t have a complete list of what was added on top of the standard features, but we guess things such as the Lavalina Nappa leather and the most expensive trims possible are included.

As for the changes done to the powertrain compared to the BMW it’s based on, the list is rather long. It all begins with a 435d model that uses a 3-liter biturbo inline 6-cylinder diesel engine making 313 HP and 630 Nm (456 lb-ft) of torque in standard guise.

Then comes the Alpina treatment that changes the intake, turbos, and exhaust, turning everything up to eleven. The D4 Biturbo then makes 350 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, plenty to send the 1.9-ton car up to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5 seconds flat.

In terms of visual changes, you also get a couple of aerodynamic add-ons like a new lip for the front bumper, one for the boot lid and a new exhaust with four tailpipes while the wheels go up to 21” in diameter, featuring the same classic turbine-style design. All in all, it’s clear that this is a stunner to look at but then again, would you pay this much for it?
