It was back in March when Alpina first unveiled its 50 Edition anniversary models at the Geneva Motor Show but it seems like they’ve had a little trouble selling all of them so far, as they brought the B6 Biturbo to the Frankfurt Motor Show too.
The stage of the Buchloe-based manufacturer was filled with new models amongst which you could spot a 50 Edition B6 too, all dressed in green and shining bright under the spotlight. The thing is, we’re kind of used to this sort of excess by now.

The 50 Edition models were launched to celebrate five decades since the company started working with BMW on tuning cars. Back then they used only to increase the cars’ performance without actually stamping their own logo on anything.

Now, in 2015, they are a proper manufacturer with their own VIN numbers even though their cars are still being built by BMW initially and only afterwards modified into proper Alpinas.

Only 100 Edition 50 models will be made, 50 of them being B5 Biturbos and 50 being B6s. The one in the adjacent photos is a B6 and it had everything you could possibly want on it.

Under the bonnet hides a reworked version of the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 from the 650i with 600 HP and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. Those levels of performance were achieved thanks to new, bigger turbos, a new intake, new exhaust and revised ECU.

On top of that, you can have them with xDrive, unlike the M models. I guess I don’t have to tell you what that means for straight up acceleration, right? Even in RWD guise, the B5 and B6 Biturbo will do 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in just 4.2 seconds, then going up to a top speed of 204 mph (330 km/h).

Getting back to the ‘special’ character of these limited edition models, we should point out that they will include hand-crafted Edition 50 body and trim features and the aforementioned engine.

The wheels are modified from the usual turbine design, the cabin can be decorated with bespoke options in this ’50 Edition’ guise and EDITION 50 plaques with the signature of Burkard Bovensiepen, the founder of the company, are placed in front of the passenger.
