BMW isn't big on the idea of an M3 Touring, and you can blame the success for the X3 M for that. However, if you want that kind of power in a practical German wagon, you won't have to go to Audi or AMG. That's because Alpina has just unveiled the new B3 Touring today at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
We really didn't expect to see this car today, since it was still undergoing testing a week ago. But the B3 Touring is a welcomed sight, especially since we know it's something the Bavarians themselves won't offer.

The number that has us all excited is 462 HP, which is the same as what the M550i Touring boasted up until recently. However, power comes not from a V8 but from a heavily revised version of the S58 bi-turbo 3-liter. This also produces a respectable 700 Nm of torque, and with those kinds of figures on the table, it's no surprise that AWD is also part of the system.

With the familiar 8-speed ZF gearbox taking care of shifts, the B3 Touring will reach over 300 km/h (186 mph). Alpina didn't release a 0 to 100 km/h time, saying that the car has been tuned for a better 0 to 200 km/h. But we bet drag races will happen within months of the launch.

Many incremental improvements separate the B3 from your regular G21 3 Series Touring. Thre's the chin spoiler, rear diffuser with integrated quad exhaust pipes and the trademark 20-inch Alpina Classic wheels. If the metallic green paint doesn't do it for you, you might need to see the color doctor, not that the Germans can't paint it in other shades.

Thanks to our Frankfurt Motor Show photo footage, you can also check out the custom interior featuring superior leather, fresh carpets and logos. Alpina will launch the new B3 Touring in the first months of 2020, with deliveries starting next summer and pricing to be announced at that time.
