Alpina B3 Bi-Turbo Review by Top Gear

This spring Alpina had one of the most exciting Geneva Shows in its history. Not only it revealed its first SUV-like car in the shape of the XD3 but it also introduced the new B3 Biturbo model, their take on the 3 Series.

As usual, the German engineering didn't cut any slack to anything and turned an average 335i into a hell of a beast, as the guys from Top Gear found out in their latest test drive.

They took the car for a spin, hoping to trick the time continuum and get a first glimpse of how the new M3 will be like. They weren't disappointed. The 3-liter twin turbo engine under the bonnet does miracles.

You might say: 'You idiot, that's TwinTurbo technology, not 2 turbochargers' but in this case you'd be wrong. Alpina managed to get its hands on the necessary tools to create bi-turbo engines for their B3, the same used on the E82 1M Coupe, the N54 units.

With this configuration, new ECU, new intercooler and a lot of other improvements, the B3 reaches 410 HP and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque, destroying even the all-mighty E92 M3 in a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) drag race, doing the run in 4.2 seconds, compared to the M3's 4.6 seconds with the DCT gearbox.

However, this car doesn't use the dual-clutch transmission, but it's fitted with the more traditional 8-speed ZF one that is perfect for its character. The top speed is somewhere around 190 mph ( over 300 km/h).

So, is it worth the money? Well, according to Top Gear, the car is almost perfect and would get a 10 out of 10 if it wasn't for the price tag. In the UK, the Alpina B3 Biturbo costs £54,950 and that might be a bit too much for some people. Other than that, this car is perfect!
