The guys at autoforum.cz recently tested a brand new Alpina B3 and found that it was fast… really fast. The car accelerates like a bat out of hell and doesn't stop until the needle says 300 km/h, not something a stock, which this car is based on, 335i is capable of.
As Alpina fans will attest, the B3 is the coolest conversion based on the 335i that money can buy. After BMW went from the twin turbo 3335i to a single turbo, Alpina obtained the tooling and now makes its own bespoke engines with doubled forced induction. With a 3-liter engine that's now been upgraded, it delivers 410 horsepower and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) to the back wheels. Those numbers are just shy of what BMW themselves sell in their new twin-turbo M3.
One thing the M3 doesn't come with is all-wheel drive, which is available as an option on the B3. With xDrive at its disposal, this special little 3 Series gets from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds.
But the B3 was never designed to be a track tool, like the M3. It's a cruiser with softer springs and dampers that make the ride supple, ironing out the bumps. The B3 is also a lot more discrete, with typical Alpina trademarks setting it apart, like the special multi-spoke wheels. Lovely thing, this Bavarian special.
