Alonso Urges Red Bull to Keep Equality between Drivers

One easy tactic that Red Bull could use in order to have a world champion in their lineup next season would be to ask Sebastian Vettel play second fiddle to teammate Mark Webber in Abu Dhabi. While a Vettel's win in the season finale would only by accompanied by a world title if Alonso comes 5th or lower, in Webber's case the situation presents itself much more simple.

If Webber wins the race and is followed by his teammate, Alonso is no longer a part of the equation. The Australian driver is currently 8 points behind the Ferrari-an in the overall classification and a 10-point advantage in Abu Dhabi would be more than enough to bring him the title.

Sensing that a strategy like in the first paragraph could really ruin his title chances – given that Red Bull are expected to dominate the Abu Dhabi GP in the same manner as in Brazil, which means that they could employ team orders if necessary – Alonso now urged Red Bull to keep doing what they have been doing for some months now, meaning let its drivers fight equally for the world title.

Red Bull has spent three months preaching about equality, so now they should continue with the same philosophy," Alonso was quoted on Sunday by the El Pais newspaper.

Needless to say, if Red Bull would have wanted things to be easier for them in Abu Dhabi, they would have played some team orders from as early as Brazil. However, team principal Christian Horner admitted that this would have ruined the whole celebration at Interlagos, where Red Bull won their first constructors' title in history.

Talking about Abu Dhabi however, Red Bull's motorsport consultant Dr. Helmut Marko admitted that a bunch of strategies will be discussed internally this week, in order for the final goal of the team to be achieved, no matter the driver to do it: win the drivers' title.

In the end, one thing's for sure: Alonso scoring a 2nd place in the season finale would ruin all mathematical equations for Red Bull.
