Alonso Urges Ferrari to Start Winning

Shortly after the Chinese Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso told the media that the real championship fight will take off in Europe. So here we are, less than 24 hours before the official start of the Spanish Grand Prix, waiting for the Spaniard to talk the talk and walk the walk in his home grand prix at Barcelona.

After starting the season in great fashion – winning the Bahrain Grand Prix ahead of teammate Felipe Massa – the Spaniard had to tackle adverse racing conditions in all the next 3 races. An early spin in Australia, a poor qualifying judgement from Ferrari in Malaysia and a jump start in China made him score only 24 points in 3 racing weekends.

Alonso wants to put all of that behind him now that he has returned to European soil, and urged Ferrari to show the world that they can win a race in the series.

“The balance of the first four races is good. We made some mistakes so we lost some points but overall I think we are in a very good position for the Championship,” said Alonso in a preview for the Spanish GP this weekend.

“We have a very competitive car and a winning car. So I think overall it is now time to show everybody we really want this Championship more than anyone else. It's time to deliver now,” added the 28-year old racer, who emphasized the importance of starting the European campaign in front of a home crowd.

“Barcelona is always a very special race for me, I will try to make everyone happy in Spain. I know people will expect a lot from us but I think we are ready for the challenge and in Barcelona we should be very competitive,” concluded Alonso.
