Alonso Troubled By Ferrari's Pace in Malaysia

While everybody was expecting Ferrari to solve the problems they encountered in the Australian Grand Prix and come back stronger in Malaysia, the Scuderia did not impress anybody in the first two practice sessions at Sepang.

Fernando Alonso, the man who is believed to head the Italian team's efforts to winning this year, scored only the 9th best time of the day on Friday, while more than 1.7 seconds off pace from Red Bull's Mark Webber. Added to the fact that his 150 Italia has been struggling with poor pace throughout the 3 hours of action, and it would be redundant to say Alonso is expecting a tough weekend in Malaysia.

We weren't too fast today and we are not expecting miracles for tomorrow,” admitted the 2-time world champion in some interviews with the Spanish media after FP2.

We know it will be a difficult qualifying, a difficult weekend and we will try our best to be as close as possible to the leaders so in the race, with the start, the tire wear, the strategy, the possibility of rain, we can take any opportunity to be on the podium, which is still the target every weekend.”

I'm aware that we are lacking speed. Even if it's only Friday the feeling is that they are pretty quick, especially Red Bull, so fighting for pole is difficult.”

Considering the weather reports for the remainder of the week, showing signs of torrential rain on both Saturday and Sunday, at race time, Alonso believes this may actually help the Scuderia turn the clock on their winning chances this weekend.

We'll try to do our best and also look at the weather. We'll see what the track conditions are and we'll try to take every opportunity that arises.”
