Alonso Surprised with Non-Competitive Ferrari

Fernando Alonso clearly did not have one of his best weekends in Turkey, as the Spanish driver failed to qualify for the Top 10 on Saturday and struggled throughout the Sunday race to eventually finish on a low 8th place at the end – which could be translated into 9th, hadn't it been for Sebastian Vettel's crashing out of the race.

The Spaniard admitted that Ferrari have temporarily lost the development race against McLaren and Mercedes to catch Red Bull Racing, as the Scuderia's cars are 4th quickest at this stage of the season. The fact that both him and 3-time Turkish GP winner Felipe Massa spent the entire race behind the two Renault cars says a lot about Ferrari's current position in the championship.

We have been a bit surprised, as both in Barcelona and here we were not too competitive. All race Felipe fought with Rosberg and I fought with Petrov, so we are at Renault's level, which is obviously not enough,” said Alonso after the race.

However, the Spaniard has not lost faith in Ferrari's potential to develop the F10, especially since the team has prepared two brand new packages for both the Canadian Grand Prix and the race at Valencia. Despite the poor results in the last couple of races – a 6th place in Monaco and an 8th place in Istanbul – the 2-time world champion admits his position in the standings has not modified too much.

The points are good. Logically we wanted more but we were third in the championship, now we are fourth so we are still there. We don't have the fastest car, and yet we are one point ahead of Vettel, so we aren't doing too bad,” added Alonso.
