Alonso Still Believes in 2010 F1 Title

Fernando Alonso insisted that his eyes are still set on clinching a 3rd championship crown in Formula One this season, as Ferrari's poor development rate so far did not interfere with that goal just yet. Additionally, the Ferrari-an expressed optimism that his team could only go up in the standings from now on, considering the packages readied by the Scuderia for the next few races.

This weekend's race at Montreal will bring only some slight changes to the Ferrari F10 – nothing too dramatic though – but Alonso keeps looking at the bigger picture rather than focus on this one next race.

I think we are in a good position to fight for this championship. There were (this year) some races better than others, and some ups and downs, but we need to be not too high when we win and not too low when we don't perform,” said Alonso prior to this weekend's race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, according to Autosport.

We need to stay consistent all through the championship. We need to stay focused all through the championship. We know it is long, but we are in a fight in the middle of the top guys in terms of points in the championship. We need to stay there, stay concentrated and there will be some good races for us. We need to take the advantage from those,” added the Spaniard.

Additionally, he stressed the fact that Ferrari should have a plan to develop the F10 gradually until a point that it becomes a true force when it matters the most, meaning in the second part of the season. The first step will be Valencia, where the Scuderia is preparing a major update for their 2010 challenger.

I think the performance will be better and better. This is a great team. This is a team that normally develops quicker than any other team, so I have no doubts that until Abu Dhabi we will be in the fight. I think we are all concentrated and all the team is really, really focused on the goal which is in November and not now,” added Alonso.
