Alonso Plays Down Ferrari Test at Fiorano

Fernando Alonso drove out of mediocrity in Canada two weekends ago, when he challenged for the win at Montreal and eventually scored a worthy podium finish. Considering that Ferrari will come to this weekend's European Grand Prix with a huge update on its F10 challenger, the chances of Alonso finally scoring his second win of the season should be higher too, at least theoretically.

And that's exactly what the Spaniard is expecting for the Valencia event. Alonso stated plenty of times this year that he wants continuity when it comes to good performances, so scoring at least a 3rd place (like in Canada) should come naturally. While aware of the fact that other teams will improve as well in Spain, the 2-time world champion has only one aim in mind: winning.

“We are happy with the job done, we arrive here in Valencia with a good package in our car but we remain very calm about our expectations. We know the other teams were not watching TV in the last few weeks, everyone will bring updates here and hopefully ours is a little bit better than the others,” said Alonso in a preview of this weekend's race.

However, he played down the few laps he did in the updated Ferrari F10 earlier this week, at Fiorano, saying that the first practice session tomorrow will be the first time he'll get to really test the new elements introduced by the Scuderia.

“I was running behind a car with cameras, at 60km/h so it was very stable! We did some laps also with no car in front, and 10 cameras on the car and on the helmet, so it was not very comfortable to drive, and it was also the first time driving an Ferrari F1 car at Fiorano.”

“Tomorrow we'll have a better answer, we expect some steps in the car a little bit quicker, but as I said before, all the other teams, they will bring some new parts here,” concluded Alonso.
