Alonso Plans 10-Year Career with Ferrari

Fernando Alonso could have become world champion for the 3rd time in career in 2010, yet the failure to do that did not left him at all bitter with his maiden campaign at Maranello. If anything, the fact that he finally got to challenge for the world title after a 2-year drought meant the world for the 29-year old Spaniard.

Not only he believes his first season at Ferrari has been the best in career, but Alonso also predicted a 10-year long career with the Prancing Horse, before retiring from Formula One for good, as revealed in a radio interview on Spain's Onda Cero. Which means Alonso ponders an F1 retirement in his late '30s, much like in Michael Schumacher's case.

It was a wonderful year,” said Alonso in the aforementioned interview, as reported by the GMM news agency. “On balance it was superb,” he added, while also avoiding to share any information on a potential team reshuffle in the weeks to come.

I don't know if all the same people are continuing or not. What I advocate is that we are united and have a competitive car,” said the Spaniard.

When joining the Scuderia at the end of the 2009 F1 season, Alonso signed a 3-year deal with the Prancing Horse, with an option from the Italian squad to further extend that agreement for another 3 years. So, in case everything works out fine for him until the end of 2012, the 2-time world champion is set to spend the next 5 years at Maranello.

One thing that he will never do though, as he stressed several times, is to join McLaren Mercedes. While admitting that he wouldn't have continued with the British team even if he had won the 2007 title, Alonso said he will never drive for the Woking-based outfit. Additionally, when asked if he's glad Sebastian Vettel, rather than Lewis Hamilton, won the 2010 championship, Alonso was blunt, answering “si” (yes).
