The Renault F1 driver believes the two regulations introduced to spice things up in the championship haven’t succeeded in addressing their initial purpose. The Spaniard's attitude towards the so-called “boost button”, the KERS system, was well known throughout the season, but when asked about the adjustable front wings button, Alonso said to the British Independent "I never touch it!"
It seems both Fernando and his team regard the two new systems as being useless. The adjustable front wings design was created in order to change the car’s behavior in straight line or when cornering, in a then-presumed hope it will increase the sport’s charm (by bringing more overtakings into play).
The system has a cockpit-mounted button that lets drivers adjust the angle of a front wing element as often as two times during a single lap.
"So far, nine races, I never use it. It's not useful at all. KERS, the aerodynamics, they are two new regulations that didn't work this year", concluded Fernando Alonso for the aforementioned British daily.
While some admit the two systems haven’t been used to their full potential this year, many argue they're useless. That is because there wasn’t sufficient time to test the technologies on the 2009 cars.
