Alonso Makes Top 5 Hottest Spanish Sportsmen on the Internet

If one were to look on how Spanish sportsmen were discussed about on sports-related blogs and forums throughout the year 2010, Fernando Alonso would easily clinch the unofficial “Hottest Spanish Sportsman of the Year” title. However, things are a bit different when considering social network schemes like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

A study developed by vipnet360 revealed that as popular as Alonso was throughout his first year with Ferrari, he only ranks 5th when the three aforementioned websites are factored in.

Needless to say, the entire podium of this unofficial classification belongs to football players. And the hottest one from Spain was Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta, none other than the man who brought Spain its first ever FIFA world cup title in the summer of 2010. Iniesta scored the winning goal of the FIFA World Cup final – held in South Africa – against the Netherlands, in extra time.

Iker Casillas (probably thanks to his relationship with gorgeous sideline reporter Sara Carbonero) and David Villa (recently transferred to Barcelona for the hottest move of the year in Spain) were ranked 2nd and 3rd, while just missing out on the podium was the No 1 in tennis Rafael Nadal.

Despite winning his first US Open in career in 2010 – he beat Serbian Novak Djokovic in the final – and becoming only the second male after Andre Agassi to take the Career Golden Slam (winning all 4 Grand Slams and the Olympic medal), Nadal was ranked only 4th, just ahead of Alonso.

Alonso would have probably been more successful had he won the F1 title in 2010, which he missed out in the very last race of the season. In his first year with Ferrari, the 2-time world champion won 5 races and grabbed one pole position, finishing the campaign in the runner-up position.
