Alonso Hasn't Lost Respect for Schumacher

Fernando Alonso insisted that his respect for Michael Schumacher was not at all shattered by the German's disappointing comeback into Formula One. After 4 rounds in the 2010 championship, the 7-time world champion is 10th overall in the drivers' standings, scoring only 10 points out of a possible 100-point tally.

Nevertheless, knowing the German all too well from his championship-winning days at Renault, Alonso insisted that the best is yet to come from Schumacher and he continues to have great respect for the 41-year old racer.

We knew what he's capable of doing so we have to respect him and we know the best is yet to come from him,” said Alonso, according to Autosport.

It's not like we spend too much time thinking about what the others are doing, but we have a huge respect towards Schumacher and every driver on the grid knows it's been a bad start for him, with very few points in the first races, but I believe there's nobody ready to say the Championship is over for him,” added the Spaniard.

Alonso's attitude towards his former rival is certainly different than the one expressed by McLaren duo Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, following the Chinese Grand Prix. At the press conference after the race, when asked by the reporters how he felt battling against Schumacher and passing him in the field, Hamilton was whispered by his teammate “Tell the truth” after which they both burst into laughter.

During that race, the German was passed by a number of drivers and eventually finished in 10th place, leading to immense criticism from the international media.
