Alonso Happy with Massa's Deal Extension

Felipe Massa signed a 2-year extension to his current deal with Ferrari earlier this week, which practically ended the continuous rumors regarding Fernando Alonso's future teammate at the Scuderia. And, although the two seem to have had their share of differences this season – remember the pit entry incident in Malaysia – the Spaniard insisted he's happy with Ferrari's decision.

I am very pleased because it means the same group will be working together for another two years. Stability is very important to the success of a team. I feel very well with Felipe - there is a lot of respect between us and that creates the harmony that is necessary to be together for the long term,” said Alonso in a recent interview with Ticionline.

The Spaniard signed a 3-year deal with the Scuderia at the end of last season, meaning he and Massa will continue as a stable lineup until the end of 2012. This should mean at least two things: the two must learn to get along inside the Ferrari lineup and the 2012 season will see a fight for survival between them.

Alonso's future at Ferrari rests in the hands of the Italian team, as the Prancing Horse has the first option to extend his deal from 2012 onwards. Until then, however, the Spaniard is much more focused on how his team is progressing in 2010, arguing that the start of the season has been compromised due to the development of the F-duct system.

I think it has been useful to work on it, although we have not been able to exploit this work completely effectively. I see that other teams have also had difficulties, while those (McLaren) who had it from the beginning retain the advantage,” added Alonso, who still maintains a good level of optimism ahead of this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.

Now that the rumors of their future lineup are done, Ferrari can fully focus on the development of their F10, on which they are to debut a fully revised package starting the European Grand Prix at Valencia.
