Alonso Hails Ferrari F10 as Greatest Car He's Ever Had

Fernando Alonso did not top the timing reports of the Jerez testing this week, but the Spaniard is the last driver in the 2010 Formula One roster to worry about lap times at the moment. And that’s because he believes the Ferrari car he’s driving now is the best F1 car he has driven in his entire career.

Having won the world title two times with Renault (2005 and 2006), Alonso doesn’t have a doubt in his mind that Ferrari is going to be at the top this year. And a strong reason for that would be that his team is yet to show what the F10 can really do on the track, while the other rivals have already showed their cards prior to the start of the season.

There are no reasons to be pessimistic. As of today, this is the best car I've ever had. The two days that I tested it was sunny and the track was dry and I could work more than I thought so I'm very happy. We have done a good job in terms of reliability and long runs,” said Alonso, talking to the AS newspaper on Saturday.

Red Bull, McLaren and Renault have been very quick and they have shown their cards, while we are still hiding ours. We are going to analyze the data, but we are very optimistic. As of today, if I were in a different team I would be looking at Ferrari because everything is going very well.

Alonso’s comments come only one day after McLaren’s Jenson Button, also reigning world champion, told the media on Friday that Ferrari looks like the most consistent car from the entire field. Nevertheless, Alonso admitted there is still some room for improvement with the F10, and pointed towards the short runs with little fuel in qualifying simulations.

Maybe where Ferrari needs to improve is in the short runs with little fuel onboard. That's where the Red Bull and the McLaren have been quicker, and they will be the reference to try and improve the F10 in the next test in Barcelona,” concluded Alonso.
