Alonso Doesn't Need Help from Rivals for 2010 Title

We know we've been writing this for quite some time now, but if two-time world champion Fernando Alonso keeps insisting that he still has the weapons to add a 3rd world title to his tally this season, who are we to ignore it, right? In yet another media showing prior to the German Grand Prix, the Ferrari-an – once again asked by the journalists to rate his title chances with half of season left to play – insisted he doesn't needs any gifts from his rivals to get back into title contention.

Meaning he doesn't need the drivers in front of him to drop out of the race or experience engine failures or any other related incidents, as he is confident that his car can do the job very well in the upcoming events.

We can do it on our own. We need consistent races. If it had been a normal race in Valencia and Silverstone, then maybe I would have the points I am behind now and maybe leading the Championship here. There are four guys in front of me, and not all of them can win,” said the Spaniard earlier today.

As it is, the Spaniard actually scored the fastest time of the first day of action on the Hockenheim Ring, sending a clear message to his competition that he means business. However, Alonso reckoned that it's not the Friday or Saturday actions that count, but what happens on Sunday.

Maybe in one race one of them doesn't take any points, in another race maybe one of them is fifth or sixth, and so on. We just need to concentrate on our job and that will be enough because at the moment we have not capitalized enough on Sunday.

Although the gap between me and the leader has increased, the car is improving race by race, and now there is a possibility to be on the podium regularly. Before Valencia we had two Red Bulls in front of us, two McLarens, sometimes one Mercedes and one Renault, and we were fighting with them. Now I think we are very strong, so I have more confidence,” added the Spaniard.
