Alonso Believes Red Bull are Favorites in Bahrain

While several drivers that many consider title contenders this season look at Fernando Alonso as the main favorite for the Bahrain Grand Prix win, the Spaniard is logically thinking otherwise. In his book, it's the guys at Red Bull Racing that hold the highest chances of a race win, considering the latest test in Barcelona – when the Milton Keynes based team scored the best time of the meeting.

I think Red Bull were a little bit ahead at the last test,” said Alonso, basing his opinion on the Barcelona action a couple of weekends ago. Although Ferrari then debuted an improved aerodynamic package for their F10, the RB6 was untouchable in Catalunya.

Nevertheless, despite saying that Red Bull currently leads the pack in terms of car package for the 2010 season, the Spaniard argued that “Bahrain is an unusual track so it's hard to bet on a winner,” in an interview with Spanish radio Cadena SER.

Asked to share some more thoughts about the title fight this season, Alonso brought nothing new to the table, echoing all his rivals' comments in admitting there will be 4 or 5 drivers battling for the crown in 2010. What's interesting though is the fact that Alonso will allegedly not be disappointed with missing out on the title this year, in case that happens.

There will be four or five drivers in the fight. I'd like to know who it will be. This is sport, not everything is two plus two. Winning a world championship is not a logical thing and it would not be a disappointment, even if we will work hard so that we do not disappoint our fans,” added the two-time world champion.

This year, Formula One will witness 4 world champions battling for the title – Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher – the last time that happened was in 1999 (at the time, it was Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve and Mika Hakkinen). As compared to that season however, all of the active world champions on the 2010 grid are regarded as having a somehow square shot at the title.
