Alonso Asks for Massa Help in Korea

Fernando Alonso hinted that he needs the help of his teammate Felipe Massa in the crucial Korean Grand Prix ahead. The Spaniard, now level on points with Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel in the overall classification, insisted that Massa has the capacity to climb on the podium once again in 2010 and hopes to work closely with him in order to set up a competitive car two weekends from now.

For me it will be important also to be able to count on my teammate Felipe,” said Alonso after the race at Suzuka, despite his initial comments on this topic earlier that weekend.

When asked about the advantage of having a teammate help you in the title fight, a luxury that none of his rivals have this year, Alonso said it “is not a big difference if you do well.” However, considering that he lost some points to his rivals at Suzuka and the championship is coming to an end, a little help from Massa would be welcomed.

I know that he will be really hoping to make up for two negative results and he has all the capacities required to return to the podium,” added Alonso, according to Ferrari's official website.

What's more, it will be very useful to work together to discover all the secrets of the new track so we can prepare our cars in the best way. In a moment like this every detail matters to achieve our goals.

Felipe Massa is yet to score a podium since his 3rd place at Monza, after finishing 8th in the Singapore Grand Prix and retiring with a damaged car after the recent Japanese race. Shortly after the race, the very president of Ferrari Luca di Montezemolo urged Massa to step up from now on and help Alonso in his quest for a world title.

Alonso's statement comes prior to a race where Red Bull are not expected to perform very well, due to the long high-speed straights on the Korean track. Referring to the next race, Red Bull's advisor Helmut Marko expressed his worries about the layout, which doesn't suit the characteristics of the RB6 (long straights ask for engine power, a chapter where Red Bull's Renault V8s are still playing catch-up to Ferrari and Mercedes). Meaning a Ferrari 1-2 finish would really spice up the title fight with 2 races remaining in the calendar.
