Alonso Aims for Perfection in Abu Dhabi

Fernando Alonso knows all too well that he has to be nothing short of perfect this weekend in order to become world champion. The Spaniard has stated in the media over and over again this season that all he wants is to get to Abu Dhabi holding decent chances for the world title. Not only he managed that, but he now holds his destiny in his own hands, as he leads the championship by 8 points from main rival Mark Webber.

Given that a win in the season finale or a runner-up spot could secure him the 3rd title in the series, Alonso admitted he aims for perfection on the Yas Marina Circuit this weekend.

The Interlagos result allows us to be in charge of our own destiny: with a win or a second place we won't need any more calculations,” said Alonso in a short preview for the Abu Dhabi GP, on the Ferrari website.

Our approach hasn't changed for this all-important race: we know that if we get everything perfectly right, then we will have the chance to reach the target that we set ourselves at the beginning of the season,” added the man who, at one point, was sitting 47 points behind the championship leader midway through the season.

Every time someone asked him about the world title, he told his fans and his team to remain calm and keep pushing, and that strategy eventually paid off. Although clearly not driving the best car of 2010 – that goes to Red Bull no matter what – Alonso is confident that he has everything in place to become world champion. Additionally, just to ease off the pressure on his Ferrari squad, the Spaniard said that no matter the outcome of the race, this season will remain one of the best he experienced in his career.

We are at the final round of a season that will remain wonderful whatever happens,” added Alonso.
